Not Too Late at 58

– Is NOW the right time for YOU?

Are you a person of a certain age?

You know what I mean – when you start thinking about the things you haven’t done yet.

Or maybe one big thing you’ve always wanted to do.

And now the phrase ‘If I don’t do it now… comes to mind.

  • Maybe you’re stuck in a rut?
  • Or have you started to settle for the quiet life?
  • Have you had thoughts like ‘I’ve tried before and it didn’t work out.’
  • Maybe you’re more positive than that and you think ’Well, I’m older and wiser now, and while I’ve still got the energy to give it a go…’

I always wanted to write and publish a book, and now I’ve done it. (Yay!) I got to the stage where I thought I couldn’t get to the end of my days without REALLY trying to make that DREAM a reality.

I know what it’s like to balance work, home, family, friends, hobbies – and THAT DREAM.

I worked out a way to make it happen for me, and I can help you decide whether NOW is the right time for you to put your energy, time, and maybe money, into making it happen for you.

That’s what led to Not Too Late at 58 , and the book is out now.

A typical client of mine would be Kate. She is 58 years old. She has worked for most of her life and she has done ok. She has brought up a daughter who has left home.

She feels like NOW is the time for her to realise that DREAM she has had for ages.

  • But should she ‘rock the boat’ at home?
  • Should she leave her job?

This course, Not Too Late at 58 –  Is NOW the right time for YOU? will take Kate through a series of steps which will help her to be sure that NOW is the right time before she commits energy, time and money to her project.

Even if she comes to the end and decides it is NOT the right time, she’ll know that she has considered it properly and made a decision – rather than always thinking ‘If only…’ for the rest of her days.

Also she won’t have sold the family home/ditched her husband/spent the children’s inheritance/(whatever it is she would need to do).

Kate’s problem makes her feel restless. She knows she is into the second half of her life and that time is running out.

She feels like If I don’t do this now, then I never will.

She also feels a teeny bit envious that others have realised their DREAMS while she has been going along in a reasonably happy and contented way. Her friend has just written and published a novel. That’s not Kate’s dream – Kate wants to move to the coast and run a B&B. She wants to do this while she is still young enough to enjoy jogging along the beach with her golden Labrador and to enjoy drinking wine in the bars along the seafront in the evenings.

Kate has talked about this for a long time. She occasionally looks on-line for property to buy in quiet coastal towns. She looks at how much her house is worth. She talks to her husband about when he retires and what he wants to do. He says ‘Whatever you want to do is fine with me’ but he doesn’t seem to realise that she is serious.

Why am I qualified to help Kate – and YOU?

  • I am that friend who wrote and published a novel (aged 59)
  • I am a trained coach/mentor for business start-ups so I’m used to working with people who are trying to realise a DREAM.
  • I am a qualified and experienced trainer therefore able to lead people through a process in a logical manner so they understand, know and can do the steps needed.
  • I am starting another new project myself right now so I know how it feels to take a risk, to leave my comfort zone and start again.

Not Too Late at 58
– Is NOW the right time for YOU?

The course is still at the introductory price of £47

This is a series of six modules – one per week – to help you decide whether NOW is the right time for YOU to realise your DREAM. You will have the chance to turn it into an action plan to move steadily towards it – while there is still time!

  • We’ll look at what you’re good at, what you’re passionate about and how these fit with your values.
  • We’ll look at different ways of generating different options to achieving your DREAM
  • We’ll think about who else might be involved and how to get them on board so that they can help and not hinder you.
  • We’ll draft out long- and medium-term visions, and short-term action plans
  • We’ll share ways of staying motivated when the going gets tough

By the end of the programme:

  • You will have consigned the bad things from the past to where they belong. OK, so you’ve tried stuff before.      (You will feel liberated)
  • You will identify much more clearly what you’re good at, what you’re passionate about and what you value most in life.    (You will feel so good about yourself)
  • You will recognise where you are now. You know the metaphor of the satnav? If it doesn’t know exactly where you are now it can’t direct you to your destination. That. You will also have identified how satisfied you are right now and what you can do to increase it.    (You will feel empowered to make the changes that you want)
  • You will have thought through several options of how you are going to achieve your DREAM, and you will have considered other people you need with you along the way.    (You will feel sure that you are taking the right path)
  • You will have visualised having achieved your DREAM, and you will have an action plan to start moving towards it.   (You will be confident in the steps you’re taking)
  • You will be clearer on what motivates you and how to use that to keep going.    (You will feel energised as you start to make your DREAM into a reality)

You will be closer to being the real YOU.

I tried writing my novel on my own. I was going to say it was hard-going, but actually I didn’t finish it until I joined a writing class. The feedback, suggestions and encouragement from my tutors and my fellow-students were motivational and inspirational – and I had paid money to do it so I felt I had to give it my best shot.

On this course we will have discussion questions and also a closed Facebook Group where we can share ideas, ask for help, ask for feedback, or just make some new friends with people who have their own DREAMs. Maybe you will find some like-minded people who you want to work more closely with.

I will take you through a structured way of looking at your past, your present and your future. You will make your own decisions and your own judgements about whether NOW is the right time to realise your DREAM.

I’ve been through this process myself. When I decided to complete and publish my novel there was a lot to think about in terms of time commitment and financial commitment. And my reputation after talking about it for so long. Would anyone buy it? Would anyone read it? Would anyone like it? I am so glad I did it.

I would love to help you realise your DREAM.

What exactly will you get when you purchase this course?

First of all, the introduction/orientation module, which you will get as soon as you sign up.

  • This will show you around the programme and how to use it.
  • It explains that there will be six modules released on the same day each week, but that you can complete them in your own time and at your own pace – they are yours to keep for ever.
  • It will show you how to join in with our Facebook Group so you can meet other people on the course.
  • You will find out what to do if you have any problems with the course or with the software
  • I’ll share with you some tips to keep going and to make the course really enjoyable as well as really useful

As I said, don’t worry if you fall a little bit behind. The modules will keep coming and are yours to keep and catch up with when you can.

Module 1      Digging up and ditching the bad stuff

The bad stuff can really hold us back. We think about things and start to believe the little voices in our head that tell us we can’t do stuff, or we aren’t good enough, or resourceful enough or brave enough.

In Module 1 we’ll seek out the unhelpful voices, thoughts and beliefs and expose them to the light of day. We’ll acknowledge what went wrong, think about what we’ve learned from them and how we would deal differently with the situations should they arise now. We’re older and wiser – don’t forget that.

You’ll lose those hang-ups about perceived failures and use your learning from the past to move forward in the future.

  • I have questions to help you with this
  • You can download a timeline exercise (which we will carry forward to Module 2 when we look at the good stuff
  • You can share (only if you want to) your past experiences and your lightbulb moments along the way.

By the end of this module you will be able to consign the bad things from the past to where they belong – in the past. OK, so you’ve tried stuff before – but you’re older and wiser – and it’s more urgent now.

You will feel liberated

Module 2      Delighting in the good stuff

I don’t know about you (yet!), but I’m not good about singing my own praises or blowing my own trumpet!

In Module 2 we’ll take time to highlight your strengths and previous wins. We’ll look at times when you turned bad situations around to good. We’ll think about what strengths other people think you’ve got (often so different to the way we see ourselves).

  • We’ll continue with the timeline exercise
  • I have questions to help you analyse your strengths
  • You can share (only if you want to) any lightbulb moments

By the end of this module you’ll be more confident in recognising your strengths and seeing how to use them to achieve your DREAM.

You will feel so good about yourself

Module 3      Recognising where you are now and recognising yourself

This is where you become really clear on where you are now, how satisfied you are with your current situation and what you can do about it.

In Module 3 we bring together the strengths you have identified, and we also consider your passions and the things you value in life. Plotting these to the overall goal of your DREAM, can help you see how you can use them to help you get there.

I have some great tools for you to download to help you do this including:

  • My own SPV Model (Strengths, Passions and Values)
  • An exercise to ‘scale’ your current level of satisfaction and what to do about it
  • A personal SWOT analysis

You will feel empowered to make the changes that you want

Module 4      Evaluating your options

This module will give you greater clarity about the different ways in which you can realise your DREAM. It’s easy to get caught up in the DREAM and to ignore the practicalities. Also – it is likely that people other than yourself will be involved in this change you’re planning so it’s important to identify how you’re going to bring them along with you.

I’ll introduce you to several models to generate options and also several models to evaluate these options and choose the best one/s for you. These models, or techniques can be done by yourself or with other people to gain their input and ideas.

Some of the techniques for you to download are:

  • (What I call) The Fried Egg diagram
  • +/- Forcefield analysis
  • Stakeholder analysis to help you consider other people
  • Back to the SPV Model as a check

You will feel sure that you are taking the right path

Module 5      Action planning – getting down to what needs to happen to make the DREAM happen

While your DREAM is floating around in your head, it is hard to decide what to do first, and whether it is the right thing. It is too easy to launch straight in then get disheartened when you realise you’ve missed out an important step along the way.

Being able to visualise your DREAM having happened can help you see where you’re going and when you might get there. But research shows that if you write down what you want to achieve it is far more likely to happen. Writing your DREAM  or goal in a specific way will help it become much more achievable.

And there is no substitute for a list of things to do NOW to get started.

So the techniques we’ll use, and downloads for you to use, include:

  • Some overview visualisation planners including some examples to show you exactly what is needed
  • Some more specific monthly/weekly ‘to do’ action lists including tips for how to get through them

You will feel confident that the steps you take are moving you closer to your DREAM

Module 6      Making it happen with motivation

You may have downloaded the free e-book Motivation and Making it Happen for YOU. This module has similar content but we will go through it together.

We start off with great enthusiasm, don’t we? But that can wane quite quickly. This is especially true if you are working on it by yourself. This module will help you be more aware of what motivates YOU so that you can keep going when the going gets tough or slow. You’ll know how you can shape your own future life, and you’ll be able to work at times when you are most energised.

I’ll share with you some theories, some tips on working with others, recommend books and I’ll recommend celebrating the small successes along the way.

Downloads in this module will include:

  • Future-life scaling diagram
  • Page of stars (another one of my own creations!)
  • An illustration of Maslow’s motivation theory to help you see where you are on he calls the Hierarchy of Needs

You will feel energised as you start to make your DREAM a reality

Your guarantee

I really want you to be happy with this course, and for you to gain some benefit from doing it.

It may be that this style of learning and developing isn’t for you. If you get to the end of Module 3 and really don’t find it useful, just email me to let me know before Module 4 arrives and I will refund your fee.

I might ask you why you didn’t like it, but only so that I can improve it in the future.

Of course, if I can improve it for you along the way, I will do that with pleasure.

Is there anything else I can tell you?

There is no risk to you in starting this course. As I said in the section above, let me know before Module 4 arrives if it isn’t for you, and I will refund the fee.

The modules will come through one-per-week to give you time to interact with the materials and the Facebook Group. Did I mention the Facebook Group before? We’ve set up a closed Facebook Group so that we can all talk about our DREAMs, our progress, our problems and our successes. It is a great way to keep the motivation going, and to give and get support from other people. The Facebook Group will stay open after the course.

And if you don’t keep up with the one-per-week, don’t worry as the material is yours for ever.

Each module will take up to one hour to complete – but you may need some thinking time too. You will want to download and complete the pro forma exercises to help you through the process.

I’ll be with you along the way. You can ask questions via the Discussion section on the course site, and of course in the Facebook Group.

So, to summarise:

You’ve reached ‘that certain age’ when you’ve started thinking about the things you haven’t done yet.

Or maybe one big thing you’ve always wanted to do. And now the phrase ‘If I don’t do it now…’ comes to mind.

I was there a couple of years ago and I worked out a way to make it happen for me.  I can help you decide whether NOW is the right time for you to put your energy, time, and maybe some money, into making your DREAM happen for you.

However, before you jump in, you can work through Not Too Late at 58 – Is NOW the right time for YOU? This is a no risk programme, and if, by the end of it you realise that now is not the right time, you will have made a conscious decision not go ahead rather than spending years thinking ‘If only…’

Either way, at the end of this programme, you will have the same personal benefits of:

  • feeling liberated by ditching your ‘baggage’ from the past
  • feeling so good about yourself by identifying and acknowledging your strengths
  • feeling empowered by your strengths, values and passions knowing you are making the right decision for now
  • feeling sure you are taking the right path, whatever you decide to do
  • feeling confident of your next steps
  • feeling energised and full of motivation
